I was thinking of looking in to the geo metro engine ?There seems to to be alot around and fairly cheap..

It's probably small enough to fit in there. I guess you would use the geo transmission too, right? or use the vw transmission with adapter plate? There were a few Geo's in the junkyard when I went the other day. I bet the parts are cheap!

Slightly off topic, but a friend of mine used to have a geo metro. He wanted to increase his HP and was thinking about using a kit that mated a Suzuki motorcycle engine into the metro's existing front wheel drive power train. The 2-stroke engine would have been smaller, but more powerful for the weight. With a stage 1 weight reduction on the already lighter convertible frame, the engine wouldn't have been under a phenomenal strain. Alas; we killed the car long before any high minded re-engineering projects could be brought to fruition. Since I began researching the XR-3, my first consideration toward tweaking the original design has been how to mate a motorcycle engine into the VW tranny Riley suggests. Your Geo Metro question got me thinking about that old kit idea. It may be something you'd want to look into as well. EDIT:They started using a Suzuki Swift in the 95 LSi model. This may have been what my friend was considering.

Actually, it's not off topic, but a good point. I think that someone else in the other forum mentioned something about mating a cycle engine to a car transmission.
If you measure the mounting holes for the engine and transmission, I bet you could have something machined!

I am plannig to use the GEO Metro, but am having difficulty finding and adaptor. No dice from Kennedy. Any suggestiions or help much appreciated..

Sweet! That's a great deal! You should be able to fab-up an adapter plate, especially with the money you've saved. How is the chassis coming along? Have you started yet, or collecting the components?

vmrod, yes it was! I have started cutting metal and am ready to start welding up the chassis............ thanks for ,, ah breaking the trail.. so to spreak... I appreciate your helpful hints and pictures.... LOL .. I can learn from your mistakes...

When you are ready to assemble the chassis, remember to measure lots of times, and use clamps, jigs, straps, and whatever you can think of to ensure your parts remain in square and proper distances. Also, as tempting as it is, only tack weld a little here and there. (Then remeasure everything). It's alot easier to grind off a little weld, then redo it.
