These wheel motors would be perfect, if only they would sell them to the public right now! Will consider for later project. www.pmlflightlink.com/motors/hipa_faq.htmlThese motors provide regerative braking and can also perform wheel braking. (No calipers needed!) Torque equalization is communicated between all wheel-motors via bus. This provides for anti-skid during braking/accelerating and eliminates a gear differential unit.

It appears that this link is dead. Maybe the company no longer exists. There are many products that get peoples attention, but have little behind them.
The Achilles' heel of wheel motors is weight. Total unsprung weight should not exceed 15% of the vehicles weight. Lower is better. High unsprung weight will make a car drivable at high speed.

They have a new site. www.hipadrive.com/I agree about the unsprung weight of a vehicle. Consider the weight of the drive shafts being removed. Also, if the brake calipers are no longer needed, then that is even more weight saved. Until a final product is ready for the public, all we can do is watch this new technology.
